Q: Can people from non-EU countries participate?
A: Anyone residing in a country within the European Union ( or a candidate EU-member) can participate. These countries are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, Croatia, The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Turkey and Iceland.
Q: Does the application have to be new?
A: Yes, it has to be a new application, developed after October 1st 2010.
With this contest we want to prove that it’s possible to develop an innovative application with little time and money.
Q: Should the app be working or can we send in an idea, a presentation or an abstract?
A: The application you send in for the INCA Award should be a functioning application, at least as working prototype, that is available for testing by the jury. You can use mock-up data in your application, as long as everything is functioning.
Q: How much time do we have?
A: The ultimate deadline for sending in your application is November 8th 2010, 12 pm (Local time in Belgium, GMT +01:00 ).
Q: Is it required to make a movie?
A: Yes. The movies can help to explain to the jury what your idea is. It’s also useful for visualising the submissions on the website and we use them during the award ceremony (if you’re lucky to be one of the winnners …).
You can use screen grabbing, do a video recording, use simple animations, work text based, ….
We’re not very demanding, but we do appreciate a reasonable resolution , preferably HD. Just upload it on Vimeo, Youtube,…
Q: I have a good idea but I’m not a developer. What can I do?
A: There are lots of teams out there working on applications, so maybe you can join them. Alternatively, post a ‘call for partners’ on twitter adding #inca10 in the text….
Q: How good should the quality of the movie be?
A: The best you can. Preferably high definition and quicktime format. But if you don’t have the means to record a really good movie, just be creative and make a presentation that clearly points out how your application works.
