CouldUse.net presents a social platform that enables users across the world to connect their real-world neighborhoods by sharing needs and helping each other out on a non-profit basis.

The Idea is really simple: “Build a simple platform that allows you to ask your neighbors for help even you don’t know any of them”
What I mean with “help” here can be thought of anything from giving someone a cup of milk over babysitting their kids to lending someone your lawn mower.

It works like this:
The app presents a map-centered UI that displays a pin for each user in a certain neighborhood.
Users can post messages describing the objects or services they need, in addition a user may also offer something or some service in return.
If a user posts a new message, the system automatically notifies all neighbors about the new post.
Additionally, all posts in a neighborhood are displayed in a list and a single user’s posts are displayed in a bubble above it’s pin.

Time presented in a analog of digital matter is in many cases unclear for  kids diagnosed with autism or ADHD. One of the major problems with the classic presentation of time is not feeling the time progression; even if there is less than 5 minutes there seams to be no movement and therefore no progression.  “SeffenS”,  brings a sollution.

Vote your Song

For this contest we implemented a real-time android app and website-solution, which works for all mobile devices. It is a system for voting and participating in a democratic process of choosing the next song out of song suggestions, which are based on a similarity algorithm to the actual song.
The submitted system can solve two tasks: First it is a democratic system, in which the majority selects the next song out of a given set of suggested similar songs to the actual played song. Second it gives feedback to the quality of the similarity algorithm that creates the song suggestions.

Additional info:

Imagine the situation that you are in a bar or a club. You have to listen to the music the DJ or a system is providing to you. Maybe it is an automatic system, which uses an algorithm to play similar songs and is trying to satisfy your likings. Of course you can also force the DJ for playing your music and fulfill your wishes, but that means you patronize the other listeners. So the “fair” solution is a voting system for the next song, which chooses the winner song with a democratic decision.

We have already implemented an automatic system which plays similar songs after each other. So our question was how to influence it and how to get feedback, if it works well. The submitted system for mobile devices solves both tasks. The functionality is as follows: Everybody gets the most three similar songs to the actual song out of a database to his mobile device either via an android app or a website. In this way everybody can vote for his favorite out of these three songs as often as he wants within the first minute of the actual song. The song with the most votes will be played next.
