Gameleon.net | The Videogame Press Network

Posted on 27 April 2009

Project name: Gameleon.net | The Videogame Press Network

Based upon a trial version of the SocialEngine script, Gameleon.net is an online networking hub for both professional and volunteer members fo the videogame industry’s press corps. Using a tweaked version of a pre-made script, the Gameleon beta was able to roll out in just a few days.

This social network, pronounced as “chameleon”, allows videogame journalists to gain ideas from each other, solicit valuable feedback on their work and their web destinations, seek new writing opportunities, ask questions, and a lot more. Our goal is to see prominent and professional writers and adminstrators rubbing shoulders with volunteers looking to get their proverbial feet in the door.

Networking isn’t always about meeting new people, it’s also about fostering related conversations about topics relevant to its core audience. Gameleon.net is the site of every member of the gaming press. Whether you’re just starting out and have a few freelance pieces under your belt, or if your site attracts 500,000 hits per week… our sincere hope is that Gameleon members will be colleagues and will find that they are all standing on common ground as they attempt to deliver the very best in gaming-related content to their readers. Gameleon is committed to delivering a multipurpose social networking portal that every videogame journalist can benefit from.

Gameleon sure is spreading its wings. With over 100 members already enrolled in the first week after the beta launch with virtually no promotion, we’re seeing a great worldwide representation of gaming press members. Gameleon has gone beyond the initial purpose of a participation for the Inca Awards. There is plenty being done behind the scenes to get the site ready for its official unveiling. Among the features that have been added the last few days, the mobile version is probably the most remarkable. Browsing with a mobile device will automatically enable the mobile version. “Gameleons” can now update their status, explore profiles, send messages and check recent activity while on the go.

During the beta, all interested, including non-videogame journalists, are invited to register and explore the possibilities. Non-videogame journalist accounts will be deleted after the beta.
